Pros: I have used this jacket on several rainy and also clear hikes. It has proven itself to be quite waterproof, even in Washington downpours. It is very light wait and compact, making it perfect to take on backpacking trips or other trips where space and weight are issues. This jacket is much less expansive than a gore-tex shell and for the most part provides you with the protection that you need. It also is a great jacket for wind-stopping when used in combination with a base or insulating layer. I recently tested this jacket on a hike that was cold and windy, and with a fleece underneath it worked perfectly.

Cons: My main concern with this jacket is its breath-ability. That is the main reason why people pay much more for a Gore-Tex or Event shell. However it does breath better that similar priced rain shells from other manufactures. Marmot has also included pit zips which help with the breath-ability but also compromise protection for the weather.  I have noticed a little bit of a moisture build up while doing fast paced hikes while wear this jacket.

Overview: I would definitely recommend the Marmot Precip to anyone looking for a comfortable, durable, lightweight, yet affordable rain shell. For the price, it is very hard to beat this jacket.
