Into the Wild - Book/Film/Soundtrack

Title: Into the Wild

Author: Jon Krakauer

Overview: Christopher McCandless, who later changes his name to Alexander Supertramp, rids himself of almost all material possessions and decides to wander the earth. This book is the account of the many different experiences that he has and the different people that he meets along the way.

Book Review: (4.7 out of 5) Krakauer does an excellent job in combining information from various sources to give you an overall feel for the life of McCandless'. Krakauer does at times spend pages talking about his own experiences and relating them to the life of McCandless. I enjoyed his stories but felt that the book would have been just as good without them. If you have ever wanted to leave your normal life behind and start a new adventure, you should definitely read this book.We can all learn many things from MacCandless' good and bad examples. In the end MacCandless discovers what life is truly about but for him it is too late. Overall, in my opinion this book is a must read for those with adventure seeking, independent hearts.

Film Review: (4.6 out of 5) Sean Penn directed the film based on the book and in my opinion was able to capture the story very well. Like all films, there were several non-critical details that were left out of the story. Even without these details, after watching the film, you have a very good understanding of Christopher MacCandless and the story of his life. Like the book, this film is definitely a must see.

Soundtrack: If you are a Pearl Jam fan than you will love the soundtrack to the Into the Wild film. Eddie Vedder wrote the complete soundtrack and in my opinion it is some of his best work. If you are not a Pearl Jam fan you will still probably like it (that's how good it is). It is another perfect album for your next trip or adventure. The best way to describe the album is that he captured the sounds of the wild and MacCandless' adventures.
